Maintenance

Bearing Greasing

The grease nipples are located on the front of the smoker near the top corners of the doors. As per the user manual you should grease the bearings bi-weekly.

Belt Replacement

Caution: Make sure the power cord is unplugged and be careful not to get your fingers caught in the belt.

If the belt between the drive motor and the gear reducer needs to be replaced this can be done by hand and generally does not require any tools.

The belt size is a 4L320 for the following models: EL, EL-EC, EL-ES, EL-IB, EL-ED, EL-EW, SSM, SSG, SSL, or SSE.

The belt size is a 4L360 or 4L380 for models SSJ-AE, SSJ, SSO, or SRO.

To remove the old belt, pull the belt off of the edge of the large pulley and rotate the pulley by hand. This should allow the belt to come off.

To install the new belt, put the belt into the smaller pulley on the drive motor and stretch it up to the edge of the large pulley. By rotating the large pulley, the belt should snap into place.

Burner Inspection Every 3 Months

It is very important to inspect and clean, if necessary, the air inlet on the combustion air blower for the gas burner. The combustion air blower adds the air with the gas to create a clean, efficient flame. If the air inlet becomes clogged with dirt or if creosote accumulates on the blower impeller behind the round disc, the air/gas mixture can be affected.

How to Calibrate the Thermostat

After the smoker has heated for about an hour, if the Thermometer & Thermostat DO NOT agree follow this procedure... After removing knob, locate the screw inside the shaft. If the thermometer reads lower than the thermostat, turn slotted screw counter clockwise, no more than 1/8 turn at a time.

If the thermometer reads higher than the thermostat, turn the slotted screw clockwise no more than 1/8 turn at a time.

Door Closer Adjustment

If the door closer roller does not lock back into position when the door is opened, the loop above the door that the roller goes into may be sprung up too far. To make the adjustment, open the door and lock the roller back into cocked position and bend the loop down until the roller just bumps the loop when the door is closed. This will hold the roller down longer as the door is opened to allow it to lock into place.

How to Calibrate the Thermometer

FOR HIGHER TEMPERATURE

Place left index finger at wide end of pointer, but close to hub. Insert screwdriver in pointer slot and turn slowly counter-clockwise. Adjust to proper setting.

How to Tighten the Drive Chain

To tighten the drive chain, you will want to use a 9/16th wrench and loosen the 4 nuts as pictured below. Once they are loosened, let the weight of the motor put tension on the chain and then tighten the nuts back.
